Sur-Ron Ultra Bee 2027: first ride on the bike that outgrew its class

Sur-Ron widened the frame, stretched the swingarm and added a real gearbox ratio. The Ultra Bee no longer feels like a big Light Bee — it feels like a small dirt bike.

The first thing you notice about the 2027 Ultra Bee is that you cannot flat-foot it. On the Light Bee, most adult riders can. That single change tells you more about Sur-Ron’s intent than any spec sheet: this is not a light electric bicycle with delusions, and it is no longer trying to be one.

Sur-Ron has spent four years being the default answer to “what’s a good first electric dirt bike.” The Ultra Bee is the company’s attempt to keep those riders instead of watching them graduate to a Stark or a Talaria. On a day of hard riding in the high desert, that attempt mostly works — with one caveat that matters more than the numbers do.

Manufacturer-claimed figures. Weight measured without the optional street kit.

Peak power is unchanged, and Sur-Ron deserves credit for not chasing a bigger headline number. What changed is continuous power — up 24 percent — and that is the figure you feel. The 2026 bike would pull hard for ninety seconds of climbing and then quietly derate as the controller got hot. The 2027 bike holds its output long enough that you run out of hill before it runs out of enthusiasm.

The longer swingarm is the other real change. It costs a little agility in tight singletrack, and it buys back a machine that no longer tries to loop out every time you get greedy with the throttle on a loose climb.

We were designing around riders who had never ridden a motorcycle. Now we are designing around riders whose second bike this is.

The caveat

The Ultra Bee still ships without DOT-compliant lighting in the US, and Sur-Ron still sells a street kit that does not, on its own, make the bike street legal in most states. Dealers are inconsistent about explaining this. Buyers keep finding out at the roadside.

Who it’s for

If you are coming off a Light Bee and finding it small, this is the obvious next bike, and the 2027 revisions fix the two things that most annoyed owners of the 2026. If you are coming off a 250F, it will still feel like a toy for the first hour — and then you will notice you are not tired, and you will start to reconsider.

Where to buy

Sur-Ron Ultra Bee

2026

  • 12.5 kW peak
  • 4.0 kWh pack
  • 190 lb / 86 kg

The 2027 model is trickling into dealers now; 2026 stock is being discounted hard, and for trail use the older bike is still a lot of machine for the money.

What it is not is a replacement for a real enduro bike, and Sur-Ron is no longer pretending otherwise. That honesty is new, and it suits them.
